Prof. P.K. Mitra said, “In India, for a population of 1,700, you have one doctor. Whereas in advanced countries, like the US, for a population of 330,they have one doctor. That means there is a lot of dearth of doctors in our country. There are about six lacs doctors required in India.”[Edited Excerpt]
The dearth of good doctors, not only in India but in other regions like Africa, Pakistan, Afghanistan, is also one of the strongest reasons to pursue medicine and becoming a doctor.
